Webkinz
Webkinz are proving to be valuable educational tools at SJEDS!!! Pre-kindergarten through second grade classes have each adopted class pets for which they are responsible. The students love caring for their pets and they do not realize the learning that is taking place because they are so entranced by the technology. This teaching tool connects to all subject areas including the arts, citizenship, social networking, internet safety, problem solving skills, teamwork, and much more.
Our teachers have been using Webkinz as a center and for small group instruction as well as whole group instruction. Each grade level has the ability to tailor the instruction to the group with which they are working. Their enthusiasm for this type of instruction (the integration of core curriculum and technology) spills over to the students.
On the second day of school one of our teachers said, "We are all so excited about our Webkinz." She found out that many of her students were already learning from their own personal Webkinz and had much to contribute to class discussions from their experiences.
One parent said, "My son was so disappointed he missed doing Webkinz in class last Friday when he was absent."
Students looking forward to school and internalizing and applying all they are learning is our goal! Learning is f-u-n!
