Committee Roles & Responsibilities

Curriculum Coordinator:
The role of the Curriculum Coordinator is to facilitate, organize, oversee and disseminate the global studies curriculum. Responsibilities include, but are not limited too:

  1. Sitting on the Global Studies Program and Art Day Committees
    1. Attend meetings
    2. Update committee on progress of school-wide project and teaching of curriculum
  2. Plan school wide culminating project
  3. Point person for all teachers regarding the curriculum and program binder
  4. Write and maintain the Global Studies Program documents, binder and budget
  5. Making sure that documents are updated, added and/or deleted as necessary
  6. Work with the technology coordinator to update electronic material
    1. need both hard and digital format
  7. Make sure faculty understands their budget limitations for curriculum development and implementation
  8. Facilitate meetings with focus grade, assist in developing curriculum and locating background information
  9. Assist faculty with use of resources (ie technology, media issues)
    1. Create folders on focus country for entire faculty providing them with cultural universal chart defined for culture, background information, activities, and selected resources (table of contents provided)
    2. Oversee and maintain the blog and integrated lesson templates
    3. Check grade level templates for accuracy and completeness
    4. Staying abreast of developing global studies programs in other schools (nationally and internationally) to be sure SJEDS is aligned with the paradigm.

Technology Coordinator:
The role of the Technology Coordinator is to oversee the technology (mainly website and internet components) aspect of the program activities and documents. Responsibilities include, but are not limited too:

  1. Sitting on the Global Studies Program Committee
    1. Attend meetings
    2. Update committee on progress of technology components
  2. Point person for all teachers regarding accessing the program on the website.
  3. Assist in the development of the blogging activities and lessons
  4. Work with the curriculum coordinator to update all program materials electronically.
  5. Work teachers to create and utilize internet and website technology in the classroom.
  6. Continue to seek out other vehicles for using the internet for both program activities as well as disseminating the program electronically

Media Resource Coordinator:
The role of the Media Resource Coordinator is to oversee the Media Center resources. To make sure the school has effective materials available for the students and faculty to use in the creation and delivering of the program units and activities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited too:

  1. Sitting on the Global Studies Program
    1. Attend meetings when necessary
    2. Update committee on activities (purchasing etc.) of Media Center
  2. Working with faculty to use the facility, plan integrated activities, and share delivering of program curricula.
  3. Continue to research and update the media center to meet the needs of the program as it grows.

Grade Level Social Studies Teacher:

  1. Sitting on the Global Studies Program and Art Day Committees
    1. Attend meetings
    2. Update committee on progress of school-wide project and teaching of curriculum
  2. Plan school wide culminating project for focus country
  3. Possibly travel to focus country
  4. Work with team to write interdisciplinary unit
  5. Finalize all components of units, submit documents to Assistant Head of School and/or Curriculum Coordinator for proofing
  6. Create Interdisciplinary unit binder, have 4 copies made (1 ea. classroom, 1 in office)
