Getting Started

How two get “started” with interdisciplinary instruction.

  1. Curriculum Brainstorm – Mapping
    1. everything goes onto map (general, specific, character, building, special programs, etc)
  2. Needs Assessment of Curriculum (perfect unit)
    1. test scores, what you touch on bust just do not have time to really get into too?, need to repeat?
    2. list in row along the bottom
  3. Curriculum Discussion
    1. What happens in your classroom
  4. Concepts Arise – list in column to far right
  5. Analyze map to find the curricular components that teach or are a natural fit for the identified concepts. You are basically narrowing your map pulling out the curriculum you will teach during the unit. This could be broad or specific. Choose the concept that best fits your needs at the time of the IDU.
  6. Web the chosen concept with each discipline to identify:
    1. Essential Questions
    2. Objectives and Outcomes
    3. Skills and Concepts
    4. Final Project
