Culminating Activity

Project:
82 Foot Dragon for students to dance under demonstrating what they have learned about and created in relation to the Chinese culture.
Materials:
- Examples of a Chinese New Year Dragon
- Template for making the dragons head (Most are paper-maché)
- 3’x 4’ square pieces of material in different colors (1 per class or homeroom)
- Extra fabric for tail and to attach body to head
- Velcro to attach body to head, jingle bells for tail
- Fabric glue, decorations for the dragons scales (large pom-poms, large sequins, etc.)
- Examples of student work and materials covered in class to decorate the dragon (Titles of stories, coins, calligraphy..)

Procedure:
- Provide each class or homeroom with bag to collect examples of students work, titles of stories read, and lessons learned throughout the duration of the unit.
- Paper-maché dragon head separately (Parents Association, Art classes or Art Club)
- Sew the pieces of fabric together.
- Rotate classes or homerooms through to design their section of the dragon with their materials and decorations.
- Students may also decorate the head and tail or this may be done separately. Attach the body to the head.
