Curriculum Calendar
Calendar and Time Frame of Program:
- Fall: “KICK-OFF”
- Assembly – school community “kicks –off” the beginning of the Global Studies Program each year by introducing the focus culture and sending off faculty members on their trip.
- Fall - Winter:
- School Wide:
- Following their path:
- A large map will hang outside of the office for the duration of trip.
- Markers will identify where the travelers are on each day. Lines will be used to identify the direction and how far they have traveled.
- Communicating with the travelers:
- Grades, other than the focus grade, will follow José’s travels via the blog upon the return of the travelers.
- The focus grade will communicate daily with the travelers via the blog and podcast.
- Classrooms will create mini-lessons comprised of specific questions and/or topics that will be the focus during blogging activities.
- Grade Groups Vehicles:
- Pre-K – 6th grade – will follow “José the Bear”.
- Pre-K - 6th grades – will participate in an “Amazing Race”or “Survivor” type mini unit after the travelers have returned and all of the resources are in place.
- Late-Winter - Spring:
- Grade levels, other than the focus grade, will incorporate lessons on the focus culture into their regular curriculum and teach their assigned interdisciplinary unit (if written).
- The focus grade will teach an interdisciplinary unit for 7-10 schools day on the focus culture.
- Culminating Project:
- School-wide: All homerooms will be assigned a piece of the project to decorate or prepare with things students have created and learned.
- The culminating project will be presented/demonstrated within the entire school community to conclude the global study for the year.
